TROY Farm

Proud to be one of Madison’s oldest organic urban farms

We are moving forward with the Troy Farm community engagement process, and we are looking for input from community members and supporters as the first step in that process.

Rooted manages the 26-acre property at 502 Troy Drive on the Northside of Madison, home to Troy Farm, Troy Community Gardens, Troy Kids’ Garden, a native forest, a food forest, a prairie, and walking trails open to the public. As we look toward the future of this vibrant space, we want to ensure that our plans align with the needs and wishes of our community.

We invite you to share your thoughts and feedback through the Troy Farm Future Survey. Your input will play a crucial role in guiding the future development and enhancements of this cherished site. We look forward to hearing from you and working together to make Troy Farm and Gardens an even better place for our community.

Troy Farm is a vegetable production and education project of Rooted. The farm has been growing certified organic vegetables on Madison’s Northside since 2001, and we are proud to be one of the city’s oldest urban farms.

After much reflection, Rooted decided to pause our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) membership program at Troy Farm for the 2024 growing season.

About Troy Farm

Watch this space! We’ll be updating this page with more information about Troy Farm soon.

Join Troy Farm

The majority of the food we grow enters the community through our farm membership program. Summer Troy Farm Members join the farm in the spring and receive fresh organic produce throughout the primary growing season (June – October). Fall Troy Farm Members join the farm in late summer and receive 5 pre-packed boxes during the late fall growing season (late October – December). In addition to fresh, USDA Certified Organic produce grown in our urban farm, members have access to our u-pick flower garden, bulk purchasing, and the weekly Troy Farm newsletter.

Every Summer Troy Farm Member receives a Square gift card that has been loaded with your balance on it. You’ll be given your card at your first farm stand visit of the year. When you purchase your veggies at the farm stand, we’ll swipe your card and that week’s purchase will be deducted from your balance. To check your balance, you can scan the QR code on the back of your card with a smartphone or you can do the following:
  • Click the button below.
  • Enter your 16-digit gift card number and 4-digit PIN found on the back of your card.
  • If your card has a 4-digit PIN but the check balance feature does not work, you will be prompted to contact the Square seller ([email protected]) to check your balance. Just send us an email and we’ll help you out.

Yes! Troy Farm accepts SNAP and WIC benefits. Additionally, all SNAP benefits are eligible for the Double Dollars Program (while funds are available).

Individuals and families who sign up for membership commit to the farm for the growing season. This helps us cover the initial annual costs of the farm operation and helps us plan our production. In return, members will receive fresh organic produce throughout the harvest season (June–October for summer memberships; October–December fall memberships), have access to the u-pick flower garden (summer members only), and support our mission to increase access to land-based education and fresh food for all of our neighbors. If you live in the community, we want to be your farmers!

Summer Troy Farm Members choose a credit amount for their membership. Come June and throughout the harvest season, you spend that credit at the Troy Farm Stand or at our booth at the Northside Farmers’ Market. You select what you want, when you want it, and you support our efforts to improve access to fresh food and land-based education for all of our neighbors.

Farm Stand Credit Options

  • $150 – for an individual or couple
  • $300 – for an individual or couple that really loves veggies or for a family that also grows some veggies in their own garden
  • $450 – for a small family
  • $600 – for a smaller family that loves to eat vegetables or for a larger family

Affordable Farm Membership: Income eligible members receive up to 75% discount off of farm membership. We accept SNAP benefits/Quest card for payment.

Our Fall Troy Farm Membership is more like a traditional CSA program. Members receive 5 pre-packed boxes available for pickup at Troy Farm every other Thursday from late-October until mid-December. Each box has about 8-10 types of veggies, including a mix of cooking greens, fresh greens, root veggies, and storage vegetables. Membership is open for fall 2023, so sign up today!

Farm memberships may be eligible for HMO rebate and payment plans are available to all members. For more information, visit the Fairshare CSA Coalition.

Joining Troy Farm supports food access for Madison residents. We are the only local farm to provide up to 75% off the price of farm membership to income limited families. Your standard price membership fee helps us provide discounted memberships through our Food Access Initiative. You can also donate directly to the Food Access Fund when you sign up for membership.

Thank you to our partners at the Fairshare CSA Coalition for helping us fund and promote this important program.

A worker share volunteer helps the farm in the field or at our markets, and gets a free membership in return. Troy Farm offers a number of different worker shares. You can learn more and apply here.
